Helping SA is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) established in 2013. We exist to fight the twin scourges of hunger and poverty that are currently devastating South African communities.
Currently, South Africa faces a silent crisis where the economic climate has pushed the demand for food aid up ten-fold. We are witnessing a "new poor"—families who were middle-class wage earners just four years ago but are now destitute due to economic instability.
Helping SA operates on a model of 100% transparency and efficiency. By utilizing volunteers and securing sponsorships for administrative needs, we ensure that the vast majority of donations go directly to beneficiaries. We are seeking partners to assist in funding four critical initiatives: The Hope Drive (Hunger Relief), Winter Care, Specialized Elderly Care, and the Year-End Crisis Relief.

A SILENT CRISIS
Statistics tell one part of the story, but the human reality on the ground tells another.
The Child’s Burden
- Malnutrition: 1 in 5 children in South Africa go to bed hungry every night.
- Education Impact: Children attend school with stomachs knotting from hunger, unable to focus on the chalkboard due to dizziness.
- The School Holiday Crisis: For these children, school holidays do not signal rest; they signal a crisis. When schools close, the one guaranteed meal of the day disappears, leaving a six-week gap of hunger.
- The Impossible Choice: Many pensioners are forced to choose between buying chronic medication or a loaf of bread. They cannot afford both.
- Living Conditions: Many live in damp backrooms or garages with freezing cement floors that aggravate conditions like arthritis.
- Abandonment: Beyond hunger, they suffer from a crushing loss of dignity and loneliness, often feeling like discarded burdens.
OUR MAIN AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Our mission goes beyond simply handing out food; we aim to fundamentally improve the lives of the destitute.
Our mission goes beyond simply handing out food; we aim to fundamentally improve the lives of the destitute.
- To Fight Hunger: Our primary mission is to provide meals to as many hungry children, elderly individuals, and families as possible.
- To Restore Dignity: We believe poverty should not strip a person of their pride. We strive to provide clean clothing, school uniforms, and toiletries so children can attend school without shame.
- To Provide Specialized Care: We recognize that the elderly often require specific diets due to health conditions like diabetes or heart disease. We aim to tailor food parcels to meet these medical needs (e.g., whole-wheat bread, vegetables) .
- To Foster Self-Sufficiency: We do not want families to remain dependent forever. We assist parents in finding employment, offering a pathway to sustained self-sufficiency.
- To Offer Moral Support: For the elderly who are often lonely or abandoned, we provide care, moral support, and the respect they truly deserve.
