Help restore dignity this school year with Helping SA

In a quiet corner of a South African classroom, there is a child not listening to the math lesson. Instead, they are staring at a classmate’s lunchbox, their stomach twisting with an ache that has lasted since yesterday.

When the bell rings, some of these children face a heartbreaking choice: take food that isn’t theirs, or go hungry. Some of these children are even "saving" scraps in their pockets, hoping to bring a few bites home to a younger sibling who is waiting in a cold house.

They aren't "bad" kids. They are just starving.
At Helping SA, we believe no child should have to choose between their hunger and their pride.

We know these parents love their children. They are hardworking survivors caught in a cycle of rising costs and lost jobs, fighting to keep a roof over their heads—often at the cost of the next meal.

We need your help to restore their dignity this school year.

We don't just hand out food; we provide stability. We supply food parcels, school uniforms, and stationery to families and safety houses across the country.

We want these children to walk into school with their heads held high, not worried about their tattered clothes or empty bellies.

At school, the pain is doubled. These children are often ridiculed for wearing tattered uniforms or carrying their books in a plastic shopping bag.

How can we ask a child to dream of the future when they are being bullied for their present?

At Helping SA, we believe that hope starts with a full plate.
We provide food parcels, clothing, and school supplies to families, orphanages, and safety houses across the country.
But we don't just want to feed them for a day; we want to restore their dignity.

We help parents find work and we ensure that when a child walks into a classroom, they feel like they belong there.

Your contribution goes further than you think: Because we buy in bulk, a little goes a long way:

  • R100: Feeds 2 people for 2 days.
  • R500: Feeds 2 people for 10 days.
  • R1,000: Feeds 2 people for 20 days.
  • R5,000: Feeds 2 people for 3 months.
  • R10,000: Sustains 2 people for six months.
My shoes have got a "hello" mouth,
My shirt is thin and torn,
And some kids point and whisper At the things that I have worn.
I carry books in plastic bags,
I try to hide my head,
And think about my sister Waiting home for half a bread
